Last weekend my hockey team, the Cornwall Midget BB Typhoons, attended the Ontario Women’s Hockey Association Provincial Championships, where the top teams after playdown qualification rounds, go to battle to the top! My team of course wouldn’t leave empty handed.
It was a series of tough battles! Me being already in two goals, a few assists and 8 penalties, we were undefeated in round robin games, won the quarter finals in overtime, then lost in the semis. What faced us now was the Bronze Medal Championship Game!
“She may be a pageant queen, but you don’t want to mess with her in front of our net,” said one of the fathers on my team.
After three long periods of hard work, determination and heart, my team won the Provincial Bronze Medal! For the majors on my team it was the first time in their lives winning a Provincial Medal, but us minors being as strong as we are, now have four Provincial Medals; two silver, and two bronze!
It was the perfect end to a great season of laughter, hard-work and friendship. A lot of us will be seeing each other again in the fall, but for some, it was an end to their years as a Typhoon hockey player. I will miss them all, but will be ready to take on the province again next year! A big thank-you to all the parents and coaches. Without them we wouldn’t have been able to get where we are today.
